Transit of Abnormal Freight
ZINARA manages the Transit of Abnormal Freight (T.O.A.F) – the movement of vehicles or loads that exceed the standard dimensions or weight limits prescribed under the Roads Act.
What is an Abnormal Load?
An abnormal load is any vehicle, trailer, or combination of vehicles carrying a load that exceeds standard prescribed dimensions or axle load limits.
These include:
- Overwidth loads (exceeding 2.5 metres)
- Overlength loads (exceeding 22 metres)
- Overheight loads (exceeding 4.3 metres)
- Overweight loads (exceeding prescribed axle loads)
- Construction equipment and machinery
- Power generation equipment
T.O.A.F Application Process
Submit Application
Submit a T.O.A.F application form to the nearest ZINARA office with details of the load, vehicle, and intended route.
Route Assessment
ZINARA engineers assess the proposed route for suitability, including bridge load capacity and road width.
Fee Payment
Pay the prescribed T.O.A.F fee based on the load type, weight, dimensions, and distance of travel.
Permit Issuance
Receive your T.O.A.F permit with specified conditions, approved routes, times of travel, and escort requirements.
